For anyone here that is running an MSD or other multi spark ignition system like a Crane Cams HI6S, please be aware that these ignitions are hard on the ignition coil. The coil is firing 3 times more than in a standard ignition system and also fire much hotter. The result is that the coil is not going to last nearly as long as in a stock system.

After some discussion with tech support at Crane I learned that 3 years is a typical lifespan for a coil in a daily driven street application. I found this out the hard way when my car started to die at the track when it got hot and for no apparent reason. No codes, just a really horrible miss. When the car would cool off it would start and drive fine but once the coil got hot it dies.

Now I've got a new MSD coil and will be installing it this weekend. I think its actually a better coil than the Crane one (which I couldn't get because it was backordered). It will fit in the stock location using adapter brackets.

Just thought I'd share this because while the MSD ignition does give a little more power, it also can result in going to the parts bin more often for coils...
