View Full Version : Anniversary Cruise - July 19th
We're in the early stages of planning a cruise to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of East Coast Domestics. There will be a cruise ending at some eatery or with a bbq. There's a couple of options for the cruise.
1. Colonial Parkway (Williamsburg / Jamestown Area)
2. Beltway - Full loop of I-64 around Norfolk with several stops (Bass Pro, Chevy's, Hooters (Norfolk) or American Indoor Karting
3. Nags Head/Outer Banks -
Any other suggestions or idea? Let's get this started!:stripes:

I like Options #1 or #2.
Option #2 sounds a lot like the Rumble Through The Tunnel (motorcycle ride)...which is a lot of fun.
If you want to do something like that, we should see about getting a VSP escort. I have a POC if you'd like me to check on it.
I actually prefer option 2. It gives people who want to meet and not cruise too far the chance for meeting and doing a part of the cruise.
A police escort might be nice. We could also consider doing this as a fundraiser event. Possibly we could work with the CCCHR and NASA to get the word out. Maybe a $10.00 fee and you get a window decal or something?
Probably also a great chance to increase our membership.

Don't forget the VPCCC. While I belong to both the VPCCC and the CCCHR, I'm more active with VPCCC. You could also post it in the Mid-Atlantic Motor Pages.

I bet we could get an escort it we did a Charity run for the FOP! (federal order of police)
And it is a good cause.
Do #2 and give tickets at each stop and a raffle at the end with prizes donated form cruse Spencer's.
Just an idea

You could do a Poker Run, where people go to different designated spots and pick a card. Then at the final place, the person with the best hand gets half the $$ and the other half goes towards charity or whatever....
I did think that was also a possibility. Maybe we could even get the prizes donated?

I've put in an email to my VSP POC asking about an escort. I'll let you know what I hear back.

poker run would be cool!
Looks like the Poker Run is picking up a bit of steam. Might be a good idea to get some locations set and get some donations from them for prizes.
Sweet...

Here's what I've heard back from the VSP:
This request would have to go to the Sgt. in charge of the motorsquad. I do not know if we are able to or not but I will forward the message to him and get a response to you. What are the dates of the ride?
Once I hear something, I will let you know.
Sounds like a great idea. So, for not it looks to be shaping up that we'll do a Poker Run on the I-64 loop. We'll try to get some businesses to help out with prizes and also have a minimal entry fee (say $10.00 for ECD members and $15 for no members).
If anyone has any suggestions for stop locations please post them. Keep in mind it would be great to get some sort of small prize donation from them for the cause. Having a Police escort would be really nice...
Any other suggestions are really appreciated. We've only got about 8 weeks to plan this so we really need to get going.
Thanks again to everyone for the help with this.

My $0.02 for possible stops:
1. Bass Pro Shops in Hampton (possibly the starting point?)
2. Pembroke Mall in Chesapeake
3. Greenbriar Mall in Chesapeake
4. Somewhere along 64W (Once you get on 64W, past 264, headed up by the airport, there really aren't any big businesses...that I can think of...to stop at. There is a shopping area and grocery store off of 64 on Granby, I believe.)
5. Hooters on Mercury Blvd in Hampton (possible ending point?)

how bout a stop in lakeland.....? sounds like the ideas thought of 2 years ago are coming to fruition....great job joe, jazz and all others...wish i was there!
I'd like to plan a meeting to discuss this. Any members who are interested in helping please chim in with possible places, times, when we might be able to get together. The planning for this is not limited to admins so the more the merrier. Its going to take a lot of coordination to get this done right.
I might also suggest that we have a small prize and plaque for the winner. Remember that this is for charity. We might also consider keeping a small portion to cover site costs though the vast majority of the money will be donated to the charity or ECD to recover costs for stickers, plaque etc. Nobody will pocket any of the money from the event, you can be garanteed of that!

How about we contact the local charity that we want to give the money to and also maybe contact a local radio station to get a few more people to come out that are non members.
Hey, I'm for that. I don't think we've officially selected a charity yet though...
As proposed by another member I'm also supporting St. Mary's as the charity we support during this cruise. Its a good cause.

I'm suggesting that we request the businesses where we stop either provide a prize for the Poker Run or a direct donation to Saint Mary's, whichever they prefer. Chris (Quickstang) has worked with them before so it shouldn't be difficult setting this up.
I don't know that we'll raise a lot of money but every little bit helps and I'm sure they will put whatever we can come up with to good use.
Looks like the Poker Run is has the most interest. Any specific locations anyone can think of?
Also, July 19th is coming soon. We also might not have 100 members by then so I'm considering holding off until August. July seems to be busy as heck. Any thoughts?
