so there's this guy at work, jerry. got a chevy full size with vortec v-8, headers, 6 speed (yeah, the same shifter as a f-body)...and an aurora...
he's a speed junkie, top speed that is....if it's under 100, it's not a race....
there's the background on jerry..
one day goin to work (at 5am), he's ahead of me on a country road that's straight, but with lots of driveways for houses and businesses and we go at it...get to about 100 and rationality sets in for me and i let off....but he keeps goin...dumbass....(me too in hindsight)
i tell him this at work, but he says, yeah, that camaro ain't got it....and continues to brag about it for days..how he beat me. he even was talkin **** with me in the room although he didn't know it till i called him out.....i said..."some day, we'll see"
ok, game on....
so this morning, i decide to drive the z. first time in 6 weeks...weather here has been nice and cool...
shift is over and i'm out a little earlier than him, but i wait to let ole girl come up to temp so i don't hurt anything....out the parking we go, no words exchanged, but he knows what's coming. county road 555...dead flat and straight for about 2 miles......weather about 65 degrees and sunny...t-tops out....a little speed music on.....pass the guard shack, out the access road....turn on to 555 and nice and slow....2nd gear...temps up....good to go....romp it a bit to let him know game on.....he bites and off we go.....
2nd...redline, 3rd.revs coming, look in mirror, hes hanging but not much.....redline 4th.....he's falling back....further...further....further.....shift to 5th....glance at speedo....130, 135, 140, 145.......time for the hazards to let him know it's over...(btw, passed another co-worker who has a 03 vette doin bout a 100 in the other direction....a blip).....and i back out...
kill over...
I can't wait to hear his excuses now......and to race him in his truck....i''m sure that's the next step...
by then the headers and possibly a tr 224 cam will be in it with a tune too...
hoping for around 380-390 hp..... not sure about the 4:10 gears just yet...
