I was trying to race a Z06, and was holding my own till........
@ about 7200 RPM in 4th gear the motor started to miss ( badly )
Now I have a metalic hammering noise coming form the motor.
It is a quad cam 4.6
as far as I know it has never been sprayed
and has clean oil
Anyone have an idea?
:WTF:

That very well could be!
Sounds like rod knock. I have the same problem. Lets tear into the motor this weekend. I just got a brand new cresent wrench we can use to torque the caps back down with. Its got a nice no slip handle!

take valve covers off and check valvetrain first

i always use a small/medium pipe wrench, it really digs into the nut to ensure grip! best part: it leaves the notches for future retorqueing

I never said it was in a mustang!
Your car hasn't been more than 5 over the limit
But yours is washed waxed and if I get time to day the inside will be cleaned.

In that case I guess I owe a few lunches then.
But those steps should still be taken.
