Well, last night I had a couple things go wrong due to some recent mods - no damage just a bad scare...

1. Got new tune from Joe, rev limit is abour 7000rpm
2. Modded my motor
3. Cleaned my throttle body

The combination resulted in my throttle body sticking in the full open position. Stuck WOT. Nice. The engine saw 7000rpm before I cut it. At this point I am horribly grateful for the new valve springs I'd just installed which probably saved the engine for grenading.

No damage to the car, just needed to change my shorts.

rev limit is 7g's? ouch thats abit high for a stock bottomend.

Yeah I know, that's Joe's program thought. I've got a rev limiter in my ignition box but had it set higher than that. I didn't learn the computer was set that high until AFTER this happened and I talked to Joe. I'll reset the crane to 6000 this weekend to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Luckily it WASN'T UNDER LOAD when this happened and the new behive springs probably saved my valves and pistons.

Ouch, that could have gotten ugly. LT's aren't supposed to spin the high.

Nice thing about modular motors is the stock rev limiter is right around 7k.

Actually I'm almost positive that without the new valve springs the old, worn out, stock ones would have floated the valves and resulted in some ugly metal contact....

So you are really happy you spent the extra money now!

I'm actually not sure that the ECU has ANY rev limit. I'm pretty sure my ignition box is set at 7,000 so that probably saved me. I'm going to run it back down to 6500 however. Wish I'd set it lower before but I always thought the ECU had a limit of 6200 or 6500 at the highest.

And YES, I was already glad I replaced the springs. The car revs a lot better with the better springs. Some of the improved top end I credit to the 1.6 rockers, the rest of the improvement to the springs.

wow, and I thought my 6300 RPM limiter was set high

I think the engine is good to about 6200 which is where I'm going to set it. The problem is with 1.6 rockers and decent springs the car really wakes up on the top end. Its hard NOT to want to rev it :)

OOPS! It happened again today. Turns out the clamp for the throttle boot got caught in the throttle body. THIS TIME I LOST A BEARING. GOT A LITTLE KNOCK NOW... So, next weekend I'm dropping the pan and replacing the bearings. I guess it was time anyway. I figure if that little over rev wasted a bearing a couple shots of spray would likely have done the same. So, in go new bearings an a high volume oil pump... Love, Peace, and Happy Holidays...

Well after new bearings the motor should be ready for fun!!!

i have my fingers crossed the crank isn't toast!

I caught this pretty early. The car was less than a mile from home and it doesn't knock at all at idle. I'm hoping its just the bearing since the crank is the better hardened crank in 1994-1995 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed too. Probably have some glazing on the cylinder walls too from the reving but hope that will burn off after the bearings go it. I've had nothing but bad luck lately, hope this is the last of it. Bad things come in three's right?

1. Head gaskets
2. Mass Air
3. Bearings

Wish me luck :)
