View Full Version : Any guesses???
Okay, here's a chance to play the dyno lottery. A full list of the mods my car will have and any guesses for what the dyno number will be. I should know about a week after its back together. Here's the specs. Guess away bench racing experts.
94 LT-1
Stock Heads
Stock Bottom End
1.6 Roller Rockers
BBK Shortie Headers
Open Cat
Hooker Competition Cat Back
Ram Air Hood
T-56 Speed
Crane Fireball ignition
Stock intake and throttle body
Custom Tune (By The HORSEPOWER FACTORY)
:rolling:
So, just basic bolt ons as you can see. What's your guess for RWHP?
I'm guessing first: 327hp 350tq

I had an almost full bolt on Lt1 with milled heads and long tubes and it made 300 HP

i just saw a 383 lt1 with a small p/p on the heads and a small cam do 353hp/375tq and that was with a full dyno tune. the heads and cam where to small for the cid. the lift was like 534 on a 110 lsa w/1.6 rkrs.
Yeah, I might be calling high numbers but I'm also trying start some discussion about lt1's in general. Besides, its all a crap shoot until you put it on the dyno....

yes your right about the crap shoot! he was hoping for 400hp plus! wow was that a kick in the shorts!! i belive he will be buying a better head and cam package real soon! i belive he is leaning towards an le3 setup.

grn95t/a yea i was there for the some of the dyno and talked to Ed afterword he said it was a very healthy motor just the heads suck reall bad. Your buddies got a nice car though.

yeah he was robbed on the heads and cam! the guy that built the motor didn't do him any favors! wasn't worth th 5g's he paid to have it pulled built and installed! although he says it runs and pulls much stronger after ed tuned it!!

700 hp... rough guesstimate
When it rains it pours... My harmonic balancer went to the grave today.
I found an underdrive balancer and pulley at Year one for $160.00 so there's another 5-10 horses... :) [notice I didn't say ponies...]

So 260hp/285tq with NO mods, I'm expecting to break 300 then or maybe even a little over which would be bad azz in a stock head car. I'd have to think most of my performance gain is in the exhaust system which will be completely replaced headers to tailpipes now.
That also seems to point to the stock motor making about 300hp at the crank rather than the 275 it gets credit for.

I think you can get 300 out of it
With the right suspension mods and tires 300hp should put down a 13.4 quarter mile time. I'd be pretty happy with that. A 75 shot of spay would get me into the 12's - I'd be VERY happy with that...

a 75 shot and a hot cam got me a best of 12.58 today!

how do you like the hotcam?? i'm thinking about getting it with the LS6 springs

is the lsx hot cam the sam as the ltx cam spec wise? i really like the exhauast note at idle, and it pulls much harder now.
If you go to a bigger cam I'll buy the hot cam :)

much easier to install and only there when you need it. unlike a cam install.

375 @ 7200?
Well, until I get some new bearings in there its going to be hard to tell. Picking up new bearings today!!! :)
This is the part where I'm really happy to have a garage and am REALLY motivated to get the Fiero out of it this weekend and get the Firebird in! Glad the new girlfriend likes cars, since she's going to be in the garage with me a LOT from now on.

Sounds like a sweet deal! When do you start building her car?
She's in school so I imagine when she finishes. Probably a rally car for off road racing or hill climbs. I've actually been kicking around the idea of building one of these in the next couple years. Finally a woman who won't say NO!!!

You ain't humble are ya Chris? Thanks for the props!!!!
Another happy customer. Another problem car whooped!!!!
Definitely. I haven't had anyone work on my car in years and I'm glad to give Ed the business. He's a stand up guy and really did a great job on my car. I 'd recommend him to anyone anytime. His sticker is going on the back of my car so losers can see who helped me blow their doors off.
Thanks again Ed!

Hmmm is that a sutle calling out ?:27:
Well, honestly it should be a low 13 second car now that its running right and tuned. It didn't quite get the 300hp mark that I wanted but its pretty dang close. I'm thinking about my next mods and what will get me that extra 15hp that I'm looking for. I hope I can get there without long tubes due to clearance issues.
Maybe a throttle body? A cam would definitely get me there but I'm not sure about that since my torque curve might not be as flat. So, where to go from here?

293hp and 318tq.
I win!!! :worship:
Bout dang time Chris. Glad you got it all sorted out.
Yep Don, your numbers were pretty dang close! I really needed that tune and it really woke the car up on the big end a lot, totally different car now. Runs like stink!
Also, I'm glad to say that if you use 18% for drivetrain loss that car should be making about 350hp at the crank which is pretty decent for a car that is basically stock. It's also very close to the horsepower of a stock LT4 car. Wish I'd ported the heads while I had them off last year.

Well, apparently, I never saw this thread before right now. That is awesome that your car is running well. Loves me some torque! Congrats!
Again, a big thanks to Ed. My car ran great at the Autocross. For the first time this year I didn't have a single mechanical problem with the car that caused me time on the track. Now I can get back to setting the car up to improve my times.

Wish I had time to get down there and have Ed tune my Cobalt. I bet I'd hit the same numbers with the 4 Banger. But sometime in Dec I'll have a bigger IC going on it. After I get the Mods I want on it, I'm definitly going to be in need of a tune.
