I'm probably going to build coil over shocks for my Fiero rather than buy a kit. The basic principle might work for other cars also since it's a strut that will be modified. Here's a link. If anyone is interested I'll probably be doing this at home in the next couple weeks and would do one before and the other with everyone watching. Let me know if interested.

Here's a link to what I'm doing.

This might adapt to other cars as well. Worth a shot and the total cost is pretty low compared to the kits on the market.

I think that would work quite well!!!

Yeah, its cheap to do and still looks totally trick! Its a pretty pimp mod for the price. Try that with a Mustang or F-body

Headed to the junkyard tomorrow to pick up some donor struts. There really isn't that much difference in the set up from car to car. So, it should be do able. I'd really like to see this work.

A QA1 coilover kit for the Mustang is right around $2000. If these do work well the quick math says these would be the winner.

I agree that in theory this should work on any strut. Since you are getting the strut assembly from the junk yard we should be able to build this off the car and figure out if it is going to work. Personally I'm hopeful and expect this to become a great mod for a lot of people.

They didn't have the '99-'04 platform there. I'll have to check back with them or maybe I'll try the mustang graveyard over on Military tomorrow. I really want to see if this works.

Settled on a coil over kit. Don't have time to souce individual parts right now so I'm shelling out big bucks ($200)

Coil over kit arrived last night. Looks good. Springs are smaller than I was expecting and shorter, but it is a light car and I guess they are higher rater springs. Non progressive of course.overall a very nice looking package.

Sure. How long you think it will take?

On a side note. I'll also do some porting of my intake as well if anyone wants to check it out.

I might also need some help Saturday picking up a bandsaw that is getting donated to the cause. Full size industrial so its more than I can handle alone. Great piece of gear to have in the garage though.

Basically this build required cutting the spring perches of and installing the threaded sleeve with adjusters. They actually came off pretty easily with a grinder. The stock kit didn't install as I originally intended so I'm having to get longer springs (12" instead of 7"). They are swapping the springs out for me. The kit allows the ride height to be adjusted very easily.

The kit was $199.00 from Ground Control Performance.
The shocks are new KYB Gas Adjusts.

Ground Control offers many other kits for F-body and 2005 and newer Mustang (about $400). The kit converts the stock Struck to a coil over. Not a bad deal. www.ground-control.com

The replacement springs are on the way and I'll post pics of the completed assembly when they arrive.

P.S. Eventually I'll convert the front to coilovers also, its a bit more expensive however (about $750) since it requires custom front lower control arms.

The new springs have arrived so I'll be finishing this project this weekend. I'll be posting the final results soon when the engine is back in the car. I need to get the serpentine belt arrangement modified and then the whole package can be installed back in the engine bay.

I guess those won't work on an 88, huh? I am replacing my rear stuts while the cradle is being swapped out, but I would rather spend the $ on coil overs.

How much do you have in them total? How much to make a set for me?

The kit I used cost $199.00 and doesn't require removing the craddles like I did - the kit was designed for shorter springs with the craddles attached so I had to order longer springs to compensate. So, total cost in addition to the new struts was only $200.00

They don't list a kit for 1988's however
