I have to vent somewhere. Took the Mustang in to get a trans fluid flush and filter replacement. Was quoted $140. No biggie. Went to pay the bill, and it was $193. So, I asked for an explanation. I was especially questioning the 14 quarts of trans fluid, when the trans only holds 12. One of the other techs there said "that's just how we bill it". Um, excuse me, that's not "just how we bill it". So I told him that's why this car never sees dealerships, and right now he's just pissing me off. So he left. The manager comes over, because I can imagine I was making a scene. He looks at it, and makes a phone call. Comes back and says the tech just drained the pan, changed the filter and used 5 quarts of fluid. So, not only did they not do what I wanted, they were trying to nail me for 9 extra quarts of fluid at $5.57 each. I swear, if you're not paying attention, you'll get screwed every which way from Sunday.
Glad it's fixed, not happy to have been almost bent over. If I caught it, how many unknowing people have they screwed over. :starwars:

Some service departments are just crap. I understand labor costs and all, but paying for crap that wasn't actually used, i'd be POed too.

Update, trans is toast. She was at several lights where it would just rev and not go anywhere. I'm still betting on torque convertor, but for now, the Mustang is parked.

That sucks, atleast you caught it.
You might try the one in Virginia Beach next time, I know atleast the parts department is good.

I don't know if the car would have made it to VB, honestly. But, it's home now, awaiting a trans. It will probably get one sooner than she thinks. :27:

Do you know how much a new one is yet? There is a guy on the Mach 1 site that works with Gene Evans Ford in Georgia and get's a decent discount. I can drop him a line if you like.

Please do. I am finding stock ones from boneyards for about 800. I'd rather get a new one if possible.

Around $2,000 is what he told me for a reman tran. I guess that didn't work out so well.

Yeah Don, a little steep right now. So far this year the car has a new top and now a different trans. I hope this is it for a while.

Joe, you're right about that. The trans I'm probably getting is from an 06.

I don't spend a lot of time on the SN197 forums but I'll try to keep an eye out for any deals.
Pending what exactly is wrong with it, it might be cheaper and better to get a rebuild. Rick's Car Care in Virginia Beach (off Military Hwy) does trans rebuilds and the work I've had done there so far has been pretty well priced.
I paid I think $650 for a header install there and that's pretty good for a Mustang.

I'm just going to put a boneyard one in for now. Hell, it's only $800 with 47k miles on it. If it needs another one after this, we may not keep the car.

There is a special tool, to align the flexplate to torque convetor. How freaking nice. Anyway, since I just paid my mortgage twice, the trans will have to wait.

Sounds like the bank F-ed you, "paying the mortgage twice".
I think I know the tool, a kind of z shaped piece of metal that bolts to the trans and the torque converter.

Talked to Ripples, out of Upper Marlboro. Haven't tried the locals yet, since I work where I do. But, when the time comes to actually do it, I'll give a few a call. I just bought the fill tool, so that's one less thing to get.

Just a thought, try Advance or Autozone. They might have something for rent.

if it kinda works it's the oil pump. the torque converter goes out then it wouldn't do anything. Your line pressure is probably too low to actuate the clutches good enough.

my converter went bad, and it would move untill it warmed up then wouldnt go anywhere. Then all of the metal shavings went threw the tranny so had to get a rebuild. So get a new converter to cause most likely if you dont it will do the same thing.
