Ok Straight liners, the local autox scene is about to start. So here's your chance to come out and beat up on some poor mustang guys in the twisty's (unless it's a certain late model Shelby) The first race of the year is March 21st, It will be on the little creek amphib base. Registration to the public (non club members) is not open yet, but I wanted to plant the seed. If you have never done this before, you have no idea, just ask Roscoe. If you are intimidated about doing somethiing you have never done before, I will be your official guide and show you the ropes. If you are going to be embarassed by getting spanked by a 94hp Miata, then stay home! If you just want to come out and watch, let me know, I may even let you ride along in my car.
YES! Seriously though, its not as easy as it looks and a 400hp car can easily get its a$$ handed to it by a Miata that's properly setup and driven hard. Funny that those are the cars I'm actually gunning for :) which is no small task in an F-body.
I'm be getting in on a full membership this year and have spent most of the winter prepping the car. Should be a blast this year and I'm hoping to actually put down some decent times.

I'll probably show for a little while but I can't run until I replace the valve train on the car. I need to run by Doug's in Virginia Beach to see what it will cost.
I'll be running regular street tire once I do get things running right so, hopefully you won't be up on my poor ole Mustang too bad.

Ok, I warned you guys... Here's the official first event of the year. Bring em on... You don't have to drive 2 hours for an 11 second run, you can get 50 seconds of track time per run for less than 30 mins drive! But you will have to use the steering wheel and brakes...

Looking at doing a little time on the twisties this year.
I am not sure how I'll do this year. I really need to get the tires rotated and balanced. I think I'll get an alignment on Sunday.

YES! Coilovers, bushings and sway bars are installed with new tires with negative camber next shifter then going to the track!!!!!
Unfortunately my brake upgrade install ran into a snag. I didn't have brakes in the morning of the event. I got it fixed around 11pm which means I'd missed tech at that point. I expect to have everything sorted out by the next event.

I'm #28, I'll be in the first heat unless they change anything around. Usually 10 am start. You'll have to get on the base access list to come out if you don't have base access stickers. Come on, you can ride with me, car handles better with a passenger.

you need a Zoom! Good videos though, thanks for coming out and shooting. Maybe nextime we can get some more ECD participation. My best run was the last 47.8 run. Finished 18th overall out of 92 cars. Considering the caliber of the 17 cars (two were Karts) in front of me, I'm pretty happy with the way the car is running now.
novajoe
06-21-2010, 10:46 AM
I would have used the zoom but it was so bright I couldn't see what I was filming. LOL
Yeah Joe, thanks. In other interesting news I lost a lower radiator hose on the way home. Had to put it back on an refill in on the side of the street. Luckily a nice lady let me use her hose. Hottest day of the year I guess kinda taxed the old cooling system. I'll be checking all my hose clamps this week. Guess the A/C strained the system more than I was expecting... Just hope I didn't get it too hot and blew out the head gaskets, but since I stopped the car after only about 100 feet its not very likely.

06-21-2010, 11:01 AM
man, I starting to believe that the car is cursed! glad you made it home. Good thing that didn't happen out on the course, you would have had 89 people really pissed at you!

You lost a fuel line and the radiator hose! Bad day man. But atleast you made it home under power!
Beach Cruiser
06-21-2010, 11:46 AM
Maybe Chris just needs to go to a hydraulics 101 technical class!
Fuel line was a real bummer but at least I know why that happened I think. I was replacing fuel lines and that one just didn't get seated properly. I'm actually going to add zip ties to these lines just to make sure I think. As for the hose, I tightened them all (except for that one apparently) only a few weeks ago. Guess the added load of the a/c must have upped the pressure enough to pop it off. All in all pretty minor stuff honestly. Now I'd like to see some times. Probably will be on slicks for the next event...
My best time was a 53.? I believe. I lost the time slip because I was leaking gas at that point. I was however on street tires which makes a huge difference. The BMW M3 that was beside me was running similar times and honestly he should have been destroying me so I felt pretty good about it.
Beach Cruiser
06-21-2010, 02:51 PM
You need more front Camber, -3 if you can get it. Staying on Street tires for a couple more events will make you a better driver, jumping early to slicks is almost like using NOS! If we have fun runs next event we can swap cars and see what happens. It took me a long time to get my car dialed in, and I'm still not there yet. Tires alone is not going make up 6 seconds! you need to tighten up the connection between the steering wheel and the the seat!

Joe, do you have a suction cup mount for your camera? If so, I'd like to try out some video from inside the car. You never did ask for a ride along, although it would be tough to film and hold on at the same time. I might could be talked into running Pungo in two weeks if anyone else is interested. Pungo is more grassroots and usually a smaller turnout.
Dude, nothing I haven't heard before. The car has a LOT more in it than I am getting out of it. I figure 3 or 4 seconds at least, but I just don't have enough seat time in the car. It's hard to tell when it's getting close to letting go at this point.
For everyone with a soft stock suspension, I'd welcome you to take a few laps in a car that has a tight suspension. There's a LOT of feel required to know when the car is at its limit, I just can't feel it yet honestly. On the other hand I was running similar times to the BMW M3 that was right beside me and that car SHOULD have been wiping the floor with me... :) I'll get up with Mills eventually, though it might take the rest of the year to dial in the car honestly. And as for the camber, agreed, I don't have enough with the stock setup. That will be fixed soon.

Beach Cruiser
03-10-2011, 09:07 PM
If you put your name on the access list it's good for the whole year. To actually race you will have to sign up for each one individually if not a member of TSCC. The membership for TSCC is over for the year, so you would be on the pay as you race plan, but getting on the access list lets you come out and watch (or ride) at any event you want.

Update! Event moved to Pungo!
Due to a delay in the approval to use ACU-4 for the upcoming March 20th event TSCC has rented the Pungo Airfield location to hold our event at. Since this is the first event of the season and we all have been waiting too long to get back on course we felt that the inconvenience of having to relocate the event at the last minute would be a better alternative to canceling the event.
Unfortunately we will not be able to have the Test-n-Tune on Saturday as planned, but we do need some volunteers (more than usual) to help prepare the site for our event. Please reply to this email if you are able to assist Saturday. Push brooms, blowers, and weedeater’s would be a ton of help, so if you have one please bring it. If we can get done early enough to set the course up, a few practice runs(in reverse direction only) may be your payment for giving up some of your Saturday to help us make the event happen.
The entrance gate is located 300 foot North of Pungo Pizza on Princess Anne Rd.
