Just curious, if anyone else seems to think we are headed into a period that likely will be worse than the great depression?

Today on the way to work I was listening to an interview with Ron Paul and was somewhat alarmed at his new predictions for the near future. Basically he was saying the proposed spending, expected rampant inflation and foreign policy spending would almost certainly result in a depression rather than just a recession. Shortly after there would be political turmoil which would lead to civil unrest and violence. Also unlike the Great Depression, we no longer are a country of small family farms so people in the cities cannot move to the country with family to survive the crisis by growing food and working the land for basic subsistence. Realizing that the vast majority of Americans (and families even) cannot take care of themselves even for a short period is somewhat alarming. Even my family which owns hundreds of acres of land, has no implements for farming anymore because government subsidies to STOP farming resulted in the land becoming idle decades ago.

Long story short, Ron Paul actually suggested that anyone living in a large city (Chicago, LA, New York, D.C. etc,) should SERIOUSLY consider moving before this happens. I was shocked to hear this. Really shocked because he’s not a weird left wing crazy guy. When the interview is available later I’ll try to get a copy.

Anyone else think this impending doom is right around the corner?:Soapbox:

I have a feeling we are heading in this direction. But I am trying to keep a positive outlook on things, but it is a hard thing to do. I think it is going to be survival of the fittest.......

I think it is entirely possible that our current economic system, which is based largely on credit and nothing more, could completely collapse. If that happens it will be survival of the fittest. I wonder how long it will be before people forget all the global warming nonsense once we have some REAL problems.

First all of YES, we are headed down hill and I blame the banking industry and Realators. But, not for one second I am going to believe anything a left wing NUT JOB like Ron Paul utters out of his tin foil hat wearing, encounters of the 3rd kind believing, mouth. Second of all I blame all of the Obama supporting socialist, French Pigs that have helped us get into Trillion dollar deficit for all the crap that is about to happen. Anyone that has any finance sense saw this s*** hole that we are in coming four years ago. So, I think the tables are about to switch, the super wealthly are going to go broke, and those of planned for this will strive.

I think if you check again you'll find that Ron Paul is a socially and economically responsible person compared to the far lefters like Obama. As for the "super wealthy" they aren't going anywhere. Plain old "rich" people will lose a LOT and the average person is going to lose more than they think. What worries me is that people aren't going to be okay with the change and DEMAND relief from the government. Then the real fun is going to start.

This has been coming for a long time.As more people wanted to be like the Joneses and used the plastic like a source of income instead of a temp solution. And this spread into the business world as well. When companies based their profits off what they might make and not what they did make. The long and the short of it is that we will survive this and hopefully learn something along the way. Yes many will lose their jobs and a lot of companies will close but new jobs will come and new companies will open. We just need to fix the problems that caused this and move on.

Only two true ways to accomplish peace. death or total control Lets face it the world will never be perfect and the money we wasted Trying to protect the "innocent" has helped put us here Who protects our innocent people when people attack us? That is right no body but us. So Lets take Opec and venezuela and Cuba and screw everyone else.. Wake up people this world will never have peace until one side conquers all others.. so who's peace do you want ours or theirs? and how much money leaves the country through political crap to other countries? Profit, That was the most illiterate rambling I have ever seen an educated man make, and I can only hope that the vast majority of it was a joke. There's no peace until one country controls it all? How peaceful was the Roman empire? I left this place for two reasons: a.) I didn't have anything to contribute in the way of technical advice on cars that hasn't all ready been covered, and b.) this is a radical right wingers paradise. I hate things going on as much as the next person, but until I can offer up any advice that doesn't sound like it came from a third grader or piggy-backing off a complete hyprocrit like Rush Limbaugh, I like to remain silent on things.

Rush Limbaugh wants to start a war?

And you should not stay silent on your opinions you should discuss your points of view and discuss others too.. that is the way people learn new things

I really do hope things rebound. Possibly the difficult winter along with the other circumstances make things seem worse than they really are. I honestly hope so, because the end result of a real collapse of the economy isn't something any of us can really prepare for. It is a nightmare I wouldn't wish on any of us.

I think what Obama and a lot of left wing liberals are going to find is that there are real consequences to all actions. We do not live in a perfect world and they are not operating in a vacuum. Crack down on drugs and the cartels will kill hundreds while the price of drugs increasing makes it an even more attractive business. Tax the those that have done well and they'll stop donating to the poor. Replace gas cars with electric ones and there are no gas taxes to build roads. It's all a VERY complicated and no simple solutions will work.

The worst thing though is that the size and scope of the governement is spinning out of control. People are starting to wake up to that. I wonder if it's too late, but I really hope not.

Google Peter Schiff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OKSrMWCw1k

Possibly the most forward thinking, most intelligent economist out there right now. He was predicting this years ago. Predicted it almost exactly the way it's gone down.

One of his contentions is the wealth that's been lost is artificial wealth. Based on an over inflated stock market, fed by credit swaps, hedge funds, and other overly risky trading. Ironically, a close family friend and trader, told some of our family in 2005 that the market was over blown. At the time it was around 10,000 (dow) and this person said the real value of the market was possibly half that. An eerie prediction looking back on it.

Now, worst part is there is a second mortgage bubble that will burst in about 2011. Guess what? It will all happen again, before we've even fully recovered from this one. What do we do then? Another round of government spending to run up the deficit?

The government spending is doing nothing but making it worse. Peter Schiff along with other economists say it has to run it's course. It has to get worse before it gets better.

Everyone, including Obama supporters, should be mad as hell at him. He's using the current economic state to push through his agendas. Even Rahm Emanual said "Never let a good crisis go to waste" and they're not.

Obama stated "most economists agree with the economic recovery package" when that's clearly false. Most DO NOT agree with it. Even the CBO (congressional budget office) doesn't agree with it, and has stated that it will hurt the long term economy rather than help it. That's stuff they don't want you to know.

cbo.gov. Go to it and do some reading. ALOT of reading!!

They predict the stimulus package will have little effect past 2010, yet that's when most of the spending is done. We're being bamboozled.

The banks who where just being bailed out 3 months ago, are now reporting profits. How bad could it have been for them?

There needs to be fundamental change in the government. We need to take it back so to speak. We need to vote out all those in congress that voted for this mess. We need to send a message. They can't be allowed to do things like give themselves raises in the middle of a financial mess like they just did.

I could go on, but I have work to do. Everyone educate themselves.

i agree. funny thing about their pay raises is that they have to vote AGAINST their own pay raise. simply by not voting, it takes place. that way they can say, "i didn't vote for a pay raise". they are all crooks and we should take back our country.
