I know this horse has been beat dead 10 times over but I'm still contemplating this one. I hear that with 4.10's I'll only lose 1 mpg on the highway (I currently get 29-30) over the 3.27's. Is that really true? I do a lot of driving so gas miliage is somewhat a concern (I can more than afford it but I still like to save what I can). What's everyone's opinion on this?

I love my 4.30's. So I would go with 4.10's.

Now that I have my head on straight. Go with 4.10's, you can use 5th going around town and that will save you some MPG. I personally am going with 4.30's, don't fear the gear.

The torque multiplier of the higher rear end gear makes it easier to get momentum thus less gas as long as you don't get in it too much. Then with the higher gear if you want to romp it it's there.

Edited: I was thinking about an F-Body owner on my original post.

Okay since we are talking about gears here...I guess I need a quick nawbie lesson on gears. Now that Richmond gear has some 3.23 and 3.55 gears available for us MOPAR Brick of a tanks we have. I believe I have 3.06 currently and with my engine I have tons of torque so I can light the tires up in 1st gear and have a heck of a burnout. What I am looking for is the ability to have a quicker launch so with that hope a quicker ET. I want to be as far down into the 11s as possible. I am currently sitting at 11.50 @ 120 mph

Alright, I think I'll end up getting 4.10's. I've been contemplating 3.73s or 4.10s for a while. I have to replace the pinion oil seal anyway, so while I'm down there I might as well upgrade. Thanks guys!

You need to look at what size tire and gear combo works best for you and your trap speeds. To tall a gear and you risk the car shifting into the O/D gear and to low your not using all your RPM's.

Here's a gear calculator you can play around with and after you choose what gear then work on getting her to stick.

I really haven't heard anyone that is not satisfied with they're 4.10's.

One of the other reasons I'm asking is for Autocross events. There is one guy that was actually faster with his 3.27's than with higher gears (wasn't shifting as much). Though he said if the course was more tight/techinical the steeper gears might be more faster. I love drag racing and will do it often but I want to set it up more for autocross and eventually open track evens (even if stuff like a panhard bar and the harder spring rates would hurt me at the strip).

He is right for the most part. I know my 3.55's suck in a technical course (lower speed turns) but it is much quicker to shift than it is to wait for the RPM's to come up.

I'd say for a drag car that's N/A a 4.56 is pretty good. For an all around car 4.10's is a happy medium.

What about the gas miliage? I've heard everything from, "you're gonna go from 30 to 20 mpg highway" to "your only going to lose about 1 or 2." Sorry for all the noob questions lol
